Mom and child talk: I am not a food

February 9th, 2009

Balancing work, being a housewife and motherhood has been becoming hard for me as the days go by. My son is growing up and as he matures, he now knows how to demand time. Sometimes it really breaks my heart knowing that I am not giving him what he deserves. You know, I have to juggle so many balls and I only have two hands. The only thing that I could do for my child right now is those little talks before going to bed. The usual how was your day questions. Though sometimes, even that I fail to do because of wrong priorities. One night, I caught him crying as he hid his face using the pillow. I asked why and he did not answer but continued to cry. Oh, he would like me to make him sleep before I do scribbling with the letters of my keyboard. So, I stopped and laid down beside him.

Tonight, we had this little talk again. I asked him to tell me his stories for the day. My husband was at the living room watching a Sunday movie. Whenever I thought that my kid was telling me some of the scenes that he encountered for the day that my hubby seemed not to know ye or would also make him laugh, I would always call him to join us and listen to what our child would have to tell. Well, I just do some shouting Honey because I am lazy to get up, he,he,he. So, I said,” Honey…HoneyBunch…”, at this my child laughed and said, HoneyBunch? HoneyBunch? Then he called his Dad, HoneyBunch… That was my queue that he was up for some laughing so I told him, “You are Sweet Dex!”. He replied with all smiles and his eyes twinkling, ” Sweet Dex? I am not a food, Mommy!” Oh, I was having a fun night. I asked him to sing me songs that he learned from school. I told him I love him. Finally, I declared that we had to really go to sleep. It was already midnight then.

I really hope that I would be a better Mom… and a better wife too. How about the Wife and Husband Talk? I thank my husband for all the understanding that some things should be set aside first and the more important ones be considered.
