How do you submit a site to a web directory? What is a web directory? All my life in the blogging world, I have been told to submit my site to a web directory and if possible to a SEO friendly web directory. They say that once your site is listed in web directories, it would be more popular and you would have more back links. Is that true?

Being listed in a web directory is different from being simply found in search engines. I tried searching for my blog at Open Directory Project but it is not listed. Simply because I did not submit it there yet. The instructions said that I have to search for my site first before submitting it. Well, for the reason that someone might have submitted it before or I might just have forgotten that I already submitted it in the past.

It is advisable to submit your site or sites in web directories. It is like having an identity. For example, when you go to the Yahoo! Directory , there are categorized items already for easier search. Examples are Business and Economy, Education, Computers, and others.

Learning about web directory submission somehow would help you to know and to decide also what you would like to do with your site. What is your purpose? Is it for personal use or business use? It is important to build content also.Example, if your site is a health blog then submit it to a web directory and choose the Health category. The administrator would review your site. If your site is really about health then it would be most likely be accepted and listed in the health category.

Web directory submission had proven to be helpful whether for business or personal use. Choose from the many free web directories to jumpstart the popularity of your site.
